[렘42:1-22, 우리말성경]
1 모든 군대 장관들과 가레아의 아들 요하난과 호사야의 아들 여사냐와 가장 작은 사람들부터 가장 큰 사람들까지 모든 백성이 가까이 나아와
2 예언자 예레미야에게 말했다. "당신은 우리의 간구를 들어 주시고 또 우리를 위해 그리고 이 모든 남은 사람들을 위해 당신의 하나님 여호와께 기도해 주십시오. 당신의 눈으로 보는 것처럼 한때 우리의 수가 많았지만 이제 조금밖에 남지 않았습니다.
3 우리가 가야 할 길과 우리가 해야 할 일을 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 말씀해 주시도록 기도해 주십시오."
4 예언자 예레미야가 그들에게 말했다. "내가 너희 말을 들었으니 내가 너희가 말한 대로 너희 하나님 여호와께 기도할 것이다. 여호와께서 너희에게 응답하시는 모든 말들을 내가 너희에게 말해 주고 너희에게 어떤 것도 숨기지 않을 것이다."
5 그러자 그들이 예레미야에게 말했다. "여호와께서 우리 사이에 진실하고 신실한 증인이 되소서. 우리가 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 당신을 보내 우리에게 하시는 모든 말씀에 따르겠습니다.
6 좋든 나쁘든 당신을 보내 간구하고 있는 우리 하나님 여호와의 목소리에 순종할 것입니다. 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와의 목소리에 순종하면 우리가 잘될 것입니다."
7 열흘이 지난 후에 여호와의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임했습니다.
8 예레미야는 가레아의 아들 요하난과 그와 함께 있던 모든 군대 장관들과 가장 작은 사람들부터 가장 큰 사람들까지 모든 백성을 불러 놓고
9 그들에게 말했다. "너희가 나를 보내 너희의 간구를 드려 달라고 했던 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
10 '만약 너희가 이 땅에 머무르면 내가 너희를 세우고 무너뜨리지 않을 것이다. 내가 너희를 심고 너희를 뽑지 않을 것이다. 이는 내가 너희에게 내린 재앙에 대해 내가 마음을 돌이키기 때문이다.
11 여호와의 말이다. 너희가 두려워하는 바벨론 왕을 두려워하지 말라. 그를 두려워하지 말라. 이는 내가 너희와 함께해 너희를 구하고 그의 손에서 건져 낼 것이기 때문이다.
12 내가 너희를 긍휼히 여기리니 그가 너희를 긍휼히 여겨서 너희 땅으로 돌려보낼 것이다.'
13 그러나 만약 너희가 '우리가 이 땅에 살지 않겠다'라고 말하며 너희 하나님 여호와의 목소리에 순종하지 않고
14 '아니다. 우리가 이집트 땅으로 가겠다. 그곳에서는 우리가 전쟁을 보거나 전쟁의 나팔 소리를 듣거나 빵에 주리거나 하지 않을 것이니 우리가 그곳에서 살겠다'라고 말한다면
15 유다의 남은 사람들아, 여호와의 말을 들으라. 이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. '만약 너희가 이집트로 가겠다고 결정하고 그곳에 가서 살면
16 너희가 두려워하는 칼이 그곳 이집트 땅에서 너희를 따라붙을 것이고 너희가 두려워하는 기근이 이집트까지 너희를 바싹 따라올 것이며 너희가 그곳에서 죽게 될 것이다.
17 이집트로 가서 그곳에서 살겠다고 결정한 모든 사람들은 칼과 기근과 전염병으로 죽게 될 것이다. 내가 그들에게 가져올 재앙에 살아남는 사람이나 피하는 사람이 없을 것이다.'
18 이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와께서 말씀하신다. '내 노여움과 분노가 예루살렘에 사는 사람들 위에 쏟아부어진 것처럼 너희가 이집트로 갈 때 내 분노가 너희 위에 쏟아부어질 것이다. 너희는 악담과 경악의 대상이 될 것이고 저주와 모욕의 대상이 될 것이다. 너희가 다시는 이곳을 볼 수 없을 것이다.'"
19 "유다의 남은 사람들아, 여호와께서 너희에 대해 말씀하셨다. '이집트로 가지 말라.' 내가 오늘 너희에게 경고하는 것을 분명히 알라.
20 너희가 나를 너희 하나님 여호와께 보내며 '우리를 위해 우리의 하나님 여호와께 기도해 주십시오. 우리의 하나님 여호와께서 우리에게 말씀하시는 모든 것을 우리에게 말해 주십시오. 그러면 우리가 그대로 할 것입니다'라고 말했을 때 너희는 너희의 목숨을 거는 실수를 했다.
21 내가 오늘 너희에게 말했지만 그분이 나를 너희에게 보내 말씀하신 모든 것에 대해서 너희가 너희의 하나님 여호와의 목소리에 순종하지 않았다.
22 그러므로 너희가 가서 살고 싶어 하는 곳에서 너희가 칼과 기근과 전염병으로 죽게 될 것이라는 것을 너희가 분명히 알라."

[Jeremiah 42:1-22, NLT]
1 Then all the military leaders, including Johanan son of Kareah and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least to the greatest, approached
2 Jeremiah the prophet. They said, "Please pray to the LORD your God for us. As you can see, we are only a tiny remnant compared to what we were before.
3 Pray that the LORD your God will show us what to do and where to go."
4 "All right," Jeremiah replied. "I will pray to the LORD your God, as you have asked, and I will tell you everything he says. I will hide nothing from you."
5 Then they said to Jeremiah, "May the LORD your God be a faithful witness against us if we refuse to obey whatever he tells us to do!
6 Whether we like it or not, we will obey the LORD our God to whom we are sending you with our plea. For if we obey him, everything will turn out well for us."
7 Ten days later the LORD gave his reply to Jeremiah.
8 So he called for Johanan son of Kareah and the other military leaders, and for all the people, from the least to the greatest.
9 He said to them, "You sent me to the LORD, the God of Israel, with your request, and this is his reply:
10 'Stay here in this land. If you do, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you. For I am sorry about all the punishment I have had to bring upon you.
11 Do not fear the king of Babylon anymore,' says the LORD. 'For I am with you and will save you and rescue you from his power.
12 I will be merciful to you by making him kind, so he will let you stay here in your land.'
13 "But if you refuse to obey the LORD your God, and if you say, 'We will not stay here;
14 instead, we will go to Egypt where we will be free from war, the call to arms, and hunger,'
15 then hear the LORD's message to the remnant of Judah. This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: 'If you are determined to go to Egypt and live there,
16 the very war and famine you fear will catch up to you, and you will die there.
17 That is the fate awaiting every one of you who insists on going to live in Egypt. Yes, you will die from war, famine, and disease. None of you will escape the disaster I will bring upon you there.'
18 "This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: 'Just as my anger and fury have been poured out on the people of Jerusalem, so they will be poured out on you when you enter Egypt. You will be an object of damnation, horror, cursing, and mockery. And you will never see your homeland again.'
19 "Listen, you remnant of Judah. The LORD has told you: 'Do not go to Egypt!' Don't forget this warning I have given you today.
20 For you were not being honest when you sent me to pray to the LORD your God for you. You said, 'Just tell us what the LORD our God says, and we will do it!'
21 And today I have told you exactly what he said, but you will not obey the LORD your God any better now than you have in the past.
22 So you can be sure that you will die from war, famine, and disease in Egypt, where you insist on going."

1 예레미야가 모든 백성에게 그들의 하나님 여호와의 이 모든 말씀, 곧 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 자기를 그들에게 보내셔서 말하게 한 그 말씀을 말하는 것을 끝냈을 때
2 호사야의 아들 아사랴와 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 교만한 사람들이 예레미야에게 말했다. "당신은 거짓말을 하고 있다! 우리 하나님 여호와께서 '너희가 이집트에서 살기 위해 그곳으로 가지 말라'고 말하라고 당신을 보내시지 않았다.
3 오직 네리야의 아들 바룩이 당신을 부추겨서 우리를 대적하게 하고 우리를 갈대아 사람들 손에 넘겨주어 그들이 우리를 죽이거나 우리를 바벨론에 포로로 잡아가도록 한 것이다."
4 이렇게 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군대 장관들과 모든 백성이 유다 땅에 머물러 있으라는 여호와의 목소리에 순종하지 않았다.
5 오히려 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군대 장관들은 유다의 남은 사람들, 곧 그들이 쫓겨난 모든 나라로부터 유다 땅에서 살기 위해 돌아온 사람들,
6 곧 남자들과 여자들과 어린아이들과 왕의 딸들과 경호 대장 느부사라단이 사반의 손자 아히감의 아들 그다랴와 함께 남겨 둔 사람들과 예언자 예레미야와 네리야의 아들 바룩을 데리고
7 여호와께 불순종해 이집트에 들어가 다바네스까지 이르렀다.
8 다바네스에서 여호와의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임해 말씀하셨습니다.
9 "너는 유다 사람들이 보는 앞에서 네 손에 큰 돌 몇 개를 가져다가 다바네스에 있는 바로의 집 입구에 있는 포장된 곳에 진흙으로 묻어라.
10 그리고 그들에게 말하여라. '이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와가 말한다. 보라. 내가 내 종 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살을 불러서 여기에 내가 묻은 이 돌들 위에 그의 보좌를 둘 것이니 그는 그 위에 왕의 큰 장막을 펼칠 것이다.
11 느부갓네살이 와서 이집트 땅을 공격해 죽을 사람은 죽이고 사로잡을 사람은 사로잡고 칼에 맞을 사람은 칼에 맞게 할 것이다.
12 내가 이집트의 신전들에 불을 지를 것이니 그가 그것들을 불태우고 그들을 포로로 잡을 것이다. 목자가 자기 옷으로 자신을 감싸듯이 그가 이집트 땅으로 자기 몸을 감쌀 것이다. 그리고 안전하게 이집트를 떠날 것이다.
13 그는 이집트 땅에 있는 벧세메스 기둥들을 깨뜨리고 이집트의 신전들을 불로 태워 버릴 것이다.'"

[Jeremiah 43:1-13, NLT]
1 When Jeremiah had finished giving this message from the LORD their God to all the people,
2 Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah, "You lie! The LORD our God hasn't forbidden us to go to Egypt!
3 Baruch son of Neriah has convinced you to say this, because he wants us to stay here and be killed by the Babylonians or be carried off into exile."
4 So Johanan and the other military leaders and all the people refused to obey the LORD's command to stay in Judah.
5 Johanan and the other leaders took with them all the people who had returned from the nearby countries to which they had fled.
6 In the crowd were men, women, and children, the king's daughters, and all those whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had left with Gedaliah. The prophet Jeremiah and Baruch were also included.
7 The people refused to obey the voice of the LORD and went to Egypt, going as far as the city of Tahpanhes.
8 Then at Tahpanhes, the LORD gave another message to Jeremiah. He said,
9 "While the people of Judah are watching, take some large rocks and bury them under the pavement stones at the entrance of Pharaoh's palace here in Tahpanhes.
10 Then say to the people of Judah, 'This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: I will certainly bring my servant Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, here to Egypt. I will set his throne over these stones that I have hidden. He will spread his royal canopy over them.
11 And when he comes, he will destroy the land of Egypt. He will bring death to those destined for death, captivity to those destined for captivity, and war to those destined for war.
12 He will set fire to the temples of Egypt's gods; he will burn the temples and carry the idols away as plunder. He will pick clean the land of Egypt as a shepherd picks fleas from his cloak. And he himself will leave unharmed.
13 He will break down the sacred pillars standing in the temple of the sun in Egypt, and he will burn down the temples of Egypt's gods.'"

1 이집트 땅, 곧 믹돌, 다바네스, 놉, 바드로스 땅에 살고 있는 모든 유다 사람들에 관해 예레미야에게 임한 여호와의 말씀입니다.
2 "이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와가 말한다. 내가 예루살렘과 유다의 모든 성읍들에 내린 모든 재앙을 너희가 보았다. 보라. 오늘날 그 성읍들이 폐허가 돼 그곳에 아무도 살지 않는다.
3 이는 그들이 그들이나 너희나 너희 조상들이 알지 못하는 다른 신들에게 향을 태우며 섬김으로써 나를 화나게 한 죄악 때문이다.
4 그러나 내가 너희에게 내 종 예언자들을 거듭 보내서 말했다. '내가 미워하는 이 가증한 일을 하지 말라!'
5 그러나 그들은 듣지도, 귀 기울이지도 않았다. 그들은 자신의 죄악으로부터 돌아서지도, 다른 신들에게 희생제물을 태우는 것을 그만두지도 않았다.
6 그러므로 내 진노와 내 분노가 쏟아져 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에 불붙었고 그것들이 오늘날처럼 황폐한 곳과 폐허가 됐다.
7 이제 이스라엘의 하나님, 만군의 하나님 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 왜 너희가 너희 자신에게 이 큰 악을 저질러 너희의 남자와 여자와 어린아이와 젖먹이를 유다 가운데서 끊어지게 하고 너희에게 남은 사람을 하나도 남기지 않게 하려는 것이냐?
8 왜 너희가 살기 위해 간 이집트 땅에서 다른 신들에게 희생제물을 태우며 너희의 손으로 만든 것으로 나를 화나게 해서 너희가 끊어 버림을 당하고 또 땅의 모든 민족들에게 저주와 모욕의 대상이 되려고 하느냐?
9 유다 땅과 예루살렘 거리에서 그들이 저지른 너희 조상의 죄악과 유다 왕들의 죄악과 그들의 왕비들의 죄악과 너희의 죄악과 너희 아내들의 죄악을 너희가 잊었느냐?
10 오늘날까지도 그들이 자기 자신을 낮추지 않고 두려워하지도 않으며 내가 너희와 너희 조상들 앞에 세운 내 율법과 율례를 따르지도 않았다.
11 그러므로 이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. 보라. 내가 너희에게 재앙을 내리고, 온 유다를 멸망시키기로 결정했다.
12 이집트 땅으로 가서 그곳에서 살겠다고 결정한 유다의 남은 사람들을 내가 제거할 것이다. 그들 모두는 이집트 땅에서 멸망할 것이다. 그들은 칼로 넘어지고 기근으로 멸망할 것이다. 가장 작은 사람부터 가장 큰 사람까지 그들은 칼과 기근으로 죽게 될 것이다. 그들은 악담과 경악의 대상이 되고 저주와 모욕의 대상이 될 것이다.
13 내가 예루살렘을 처벌했듯이 이집트 땅에 사는 사람들을 칼과 기근과 전염병으로 처벌할 것이다.
14 이집트 땅으로 가서 그곳에서 살고 있는 유다의 남은 사람들 가운데 도피하는 사람이나 살아남는 사람이 없을 것이다. 그들이 돌아가 살기를 갈망했던 유다 땅으로 돌아가지 못할 것이다. 몇몇 도피하는 사람들을 빼고는 그들이 돌아가지 못할 것이다."
15 그때 그들의 아내들이 다른 신들에게 희생제물을 태운 사실을 알고 있는 모든 남자들과 그 곁에 서 있던 모든 여자들과 이집트 땅 바드로스에 사는 백성의 큰 무리가 예레미야에게 대답했다.
16 "당신이 여호와의 이름으로 우리에게 선포한 말에 대해 우리가 귀 기울이지 않겠습니다!
17 우리 입에서 나온 모든 말을 우리가 반드시 실행할 것입니다. 우리는 우리와 우리 조상들과 우리 왕들과 우리 관료들이 유다의 성읍들과 예루살렘의 거리에서 했던 그대로 하늘의 여왕에게 희생제물을 태우고 전제물을 부어 드릴 것입니다. 그때는 우리가 먹을 것도 많았고 우리가 부유했고 우리가 어떤 재앙도 보지 않았습니다.
18 그런데 우리가 하늘의 여왕에게 희생제물을 태우고 전제물을 부어 드리기를 멈춘 그때부터 모든 것이 부족했고 칼과 기근으로 우리가 멸망당했습니다."
19 그리고 여자들이 말했습니다. "우리가 하늘의 여왕에게 희생제물을 태우고 전제물을 부어 드릴 때 우리 남편들의 허락 없이 하늘 여왕의 형상대로 제사용 과자를 만들고 전제물을 부었겠습니까?"
20 그러자 이렇게 대답하는 남자들과 여자들, 모든 백성에게 예레미야가 말했다.
21 "너희와 너희 조상들과 너희 왕들과 너희 관료들과 그 땅의 백성이 유다의 성읍들과 예루살렘의 거리에서 희생제물을 태운 것에 대해 여호와께서 그것을 기억하지 아니하셨겠느냐? 그것이 여호와께 생각나지 아니하셨겠느냐?
22 여호와께서 너희 행위의 악함과 너희가 행한 가증한 짓들을 더 이상 참을 수 없으셨기 때문에 오늘날처럼 너희 땅이 폐허가 되고 경악과 저주의 대상이 돼 그곳에 사는 사람이 없게 됐다.
23 너희가 희생제물을 태우고 여호와께 죄를 짓고 여호와의 목소리에 순종하지 않고 그분의 율법과 규례와 계명을 따르지 않았기 때문에 이 재앙이 오늘날처럼 너희에게 일어났다."
24 예레미야가 모든 백성과 모든 여자들에게 말했다. "이집트 땅에 있는 모든 유다야, 여호와의 말씀을 들으라.
25 이스라엘의 하나님 만군의 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. 너희와 너희 아내들이 입으로 말하고 그것을 손으로 행했다. '우리가 하늘의 여왕에게 희생제물을 태우고 전제물을 그녀에게 부어 드리겠다고 한 맹세를 반드시 실행할 것이다'라고 했으니 너희의 맹세를 반드시 이루라! 너희의 맹세를 반드시 실행하라!
26 그러므로 이집트 땅에 사는 모든 유다 사람들아, 여호와의 말씀을 들으라. 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. 보라. 내가 내 큰 이름으로 맹세하니 이집트 온 땅에서 어떤 유다 사람의 입에서도 '여호와께서 살아 계신 것같이'라고 말해 내 이름이 불려지는 일이 다시는 없을 것이다.
27 보라. 내가 복을 위해서가 아니라 재앙을 위해서 그들을 지켜볼 것이다. 이집트 땅에 있는 모든 유다 사람들이 칼과 기근으로 완전히 멸망할 것이다.
28 칼을 피하고 이집트 땅에서 유다 땅으로 돌아갈 사람들이 적을 것이다. 이집트 땅에서 살려고 그곳으로 간 유다의 모든 남은 사람들이 내 말과 그들의 말 가운데 누구의 말이 이루어질 것인지 알게 될 것이다."
29 "여호와의 말이다. '이것이 너희에게 내가 이곳에서 너희를 처벌할 표적이 될 것이다. 내 말이 너희에게 재앙으로 반드시 이루어질 것이라는 것을 너희가 알게 될 것이다.'
30 여호와가 이렇게 말한다. '보라. 내가 유다 왕 시드기야를 그의 목숨을 찾는 원수인 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살에게 넘겨준 것처럼, 이집트 왕 바로 호브라를 그의 대적들의 손과 그의 목숨을 찾는 사람들의 손에 넘겨줄 것이다.'"

1 This is the message Jeremiah received concerning the Judeans living in northern Egypt in the cities of Migdol, Tahpanhes, and Memphis, and in southern Egypt as well:
2 "This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: You saw the calamity I brought on Jerusalem and all the towns of Judah. They now lie deserted and in ruins.
3 They provoked my anger with all their wickedness. They burned incense and worshiped other gods—gods that neither they nor you nor any of your ancestors had ever even known.
4 "Again and again I sent my servants, the prophets, to plead with them, 'Don't do these horrible things that I hate so much.'
5 But my people would not listen or turn back from their wicked ways. They kept on burning incense to these gods.
6 And so my fury boiled over and fell like fire on the towns of Judah and into the streets of Jerusalem, and they are still a desolate ruin today.
7 "And now the LORD God of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, asks you: Why are you destroying yourselves? For not one of you will survive—not a man, woman, or child among you who has come here from Judah, not even the babies in your arms.
8 Why provoke my anger by burning incense to the idols you have made here in Egypt? You will only destroy yourselves and make yourselves an object of cursing and mockery for all the nations of the earth.
9 Have you forgotten the sins of your ancestors, the sins of the kings and queens of Judah, and the sins you and your wives committed in Judah and Jerusalem?
10 To this very hour you have shown no remorse or reverence. No one has chosen to follow my word and the decrees I gave to you and your ancestors before you.
11 "Therefore, this is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: I am determined to destroy every one of you!
12 I will take this remnant of Judah—those who were determined to come here and live in Egypt—and I will consume them. They will fall here in Egypt, killed by war and famine. All will die, from the least to the greatest. They will be an object of damnation, horror, cursing, and mockery.
13 I will punish them in Egypt just as I punished them in Jerusalem, by war, famine, and disease.
14 Of that remnant who fled to Egypt, hoping someday to return to Judah, there will be no survivors. Even though they long to return home, only a handful will do so."
15 Then all the women present and all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense to idols—a great crowd of all the Judeans living in northern Egypt and southern Egypt—answered Jeremiah,
16 "We will not listen to your messages from the LORD!
17 We will do whatever we want. We will burn incense and pour out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven just as much as we like—just as we, and our ancestors, and our kings and officials have always done in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For in those days we had plenty to eat, and we were well off and had no troubles!
18 But ever since we quit burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and stopped worshiping her with liquid offerings, we have been in great trouble and have been dying from war and famine."
19 "Besides," the women added, "do you suppose that we were burning incense and pouring out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven, and making cakes marked with her image, without our husbands knowing it and helping us? Of course not!"
20 Then Jeremiah said to all of them, men and women alike, who had given him that answer,
21 "Do you think the LORD did not know that you and your ancestors, your kings and officials, and all the people were burning incense to idols in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
22 It was because the LORD could no longer bear all the disgusting things you were doing that he made your land an object of cursing—a desolate ruin without inhabitants—as it is today.
23 All these terrible things happened to you because you have burned incense to idols and sinned against the LORD. You have refused to obey him and have not followed his instructions, his decrees, and his laws."
24 Then Jeremiah said to them all, including the women, "Listen to this message from the LORD, all you citizens of Judah who live in Egypt.
25 This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies, the God of Israel, says: 'You and your wives have said, "We will keep our promises to burn incense and pour out liquid offerings to the Queen of Heaven," and you have proved by your actions that you meant it. So go ahead and carry out your promises and vows to her!'
26 "But listen to this message from the LORD, all you Judeans now living in Egypt: 'I have sworn by my great name,' says the LORD, 'that my name will no longer be spoken by any of the Judeans in the land of Egypt. None of you may invoke my name or use this oath: "As surely as the Sovereign LORD lives."
27 For I will watch over you to bring you disaster and not good. Everyone from Judah who is now living in Egypt will suffer war and famine until all of you are dead.
28 Only a small number will escape death and return to Judah from Egypt. Then all those who came to Egypt will find out whose words are true—mine or theirs!
29 "'And this is the proof I give you,' says the LORD, 'that all I have threatened will happen to you and that I will punish you here.'
30 This is what the LORD says: 'I will turn Pharaoh Hophra, king of Egypt, over to his enemies who want to kill him, just as I turned King Zedekiah of Judah over to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.'"

1 유다 왕 요시야의 아들 여호야김 4년에 예레미야가 불러 주는 말에 따라 바룩이 이 말씀들을 책에 기록한 후 예언자 예레미야가 네리야의 아들 바룩에게 한 말입니다.
2 "바룩아, 네게 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다.
3 네가 말했다. '내게 화가 있도다! 이는 여호와께서 내 고통에 슬픔을 더하셨기 때문이다. 내가 탄식으로 피곤하고 쉼을 찾지 못한다.'"
4 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "그에게 이것을 말하여라. '여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하셨다. 보아라. 내가 세운 것을 내가 무너뜨릴 것이고 내가 심은 것을 내가 뽑아 버릴 것이다. 내가 온 땅에 그리하겠다.
5 그런데도 네가 네 자신을 위해 큰일들을 추구하느냐? 그것들을 추구하지 마라. 보아라. 이는 내가 모든 사람에게 재앙을 가져올 것이기 때문이다. 그러나 네가 가는 모든 곳에서 내가 네 목숨을 전리품처럼 건져 줄 것이다.' 여호와의 말이다."

1 The prophet Jeremiah gave a message to Baruch son of Neriah in the fourth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, after Baruch had written down everything Jeremiah had dictated to him. He said,
2 "This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:
3 You have said, 'I am overwhelmed with trouble! Haven't I had enough pain already? And now the LORD has added more! I am worn out from sighing and can find no rest.'
4 "Baruch, this is what the LORD says: 'I will destroy this nation that I built. I will uproot what I planted.
5 Are you seeking great things for yourself? Don't do it! I will bring great disaster upon all these people; but I will give you your life as a reward wherever you go. I, the LORD, have spoken!'"








민족의 멸망을 선포한 이유로 극심한 고통 가운데 고군분투하는 예레미야 선지자와 동행하는 바룩에게 주어진 현실은 ‘시온의 대로’가 아니였습니다.
예레미야가 당했던 고통, 눈물, 아픔이 바룩에게도 고스란히 주어졌습니다. 고통의 한가운데서도 예레미야 선지자 곁을 떠나지 않고 함께한 바룩을 하나님께서 위로해주십니다. 재앙 가운데서도 생명을 얻게 되리라는 약속을 주신 것입니다. 예레미야 선지자가 힘들고 어려운 환경 속에서 고통과 눈물을 참아야 했던 그 시간에, 바룩은 가장 가까운 곳에서 끝까지 예레미야와 함께했습니다. 그는 예레미야의 소중하고 진실한 친구이자 하나님의 사람 이었습니다.
우리 예수님께도 바룩과 같은 친구들이 있었습니다. 땅끝까지 이르러 복음의 증인이 되라는 말씀에 순종하여 예수님께서 가신 그 길을 묵묵히 걸어간 제자들이 그들입니다. 우리도 세상 끝날까지 함께하시겠다는 예수님의 약속을 의지하며 끝까지 그 길에 동행합시다.

하나님께서는 예레미야 선지자와 끝까지 동행한 바룩에게 구원을 약속해주십니다.
